Composed of 35 hand-painted earthenware plates and 22 karat gold luster, POWER sources a drawing by celebrated English designer Christopher Dresser. One in an ongoing series of works reflecting Dresser’s influence and powerful role in the history of industrial design. POWER works to deconstruct and reconstruct design history, claiming space for a female perspective in a traditionally male-dominated canon. The work challenges definitions of design, craft and fine art and asks the viewer to rethink roles of power in design history.
