Commissioned for a collectors California home in a deep obsidian, SEEK is comprised of 43 hand thrown and hand painted porcelain plates with 22k gold luster. This work is a feminist interruption and re-appropriation of an illustration from Owen Jones' iconic 19th century text "Examples of Chinese Ornament". Quest works to claim space for a woman's perspective in the history of design and craft. By deconstructing the familiar and making room for a visual reconstruction of the historic surface pattern, a new understanding of the material and a literal reflection of the "now" is presented.
